California authorities have evacuated thousands of others people from their homes on Saturday as forest fires widened due to constant wind changes, while the number of people killed by the fire has risen to at least 40 people .
More than 10,000 firefighters are fighting 16 major forest fires in North areas of San Francisco. The fires in seven days were about 214,000 acres of forest, or about 334 square miles, larger than New York City.
The number of dead including 20 in Sonoma province has become the bloodiest fire in California’s history.
About 100,000 people were forced to leave their homes, 3,000 evacuated from the city of Santa Rosa, about 50 km North of San Francisco.
“This is really one of the worst tragedies in California ever; the scale of the destruction is unbelievable. It is a terrible thing no one can imagine. “California Governor Jerry Brown said during a visit to the devastated city of Santa Rosa.
According to Reuters “The fire damaged about 5,700 buildings and turned houses and businesses into ashes.. While more than 235 people remained missing in Sonoma province alone, while thousands of burning homes were searched but have not finished yet”.
Authorities said the death toll of the so-called North Bay fires was likely to rise.
