Khartoum , June 11 ( Kem) – The government of South Sudan has voiced resentment over the decision of suspending Sudan’s membership of the African Union , reminding that Sudan and Uganda are co-guarantors of the revitalized peace agreement of South Sudan. The African Union’s Peace and Security Council resolved last Thursday to freeze Sudan’s membership in all Union activities until a civilian-led Transitional Authority is installed to replace the defunct regime of President Omar Al-Bashir. South Sudan’s Information Minister and Government spokesman Michael Mekkowi said following a cabinet session in Juba Monday that they were not consulted over the AU decision despite that Sudan is a neighbor state and Juba’s request to be part of the mechanism for resolving the present crisis in Sudan. “The (revitalized) peace agreement,” he explained, “explicitly stipulates Sudan and Uganda as co-guarantors and now Sudan’s membership is suspended” , adding “Let the Inter-Governmental Authority for Development (IGAD) and the AU show us the way forward”. In his statements , carried by “Tamazug” Radio , the spokesman said his government will meet in the next days to consider this problem , complaining that the AU left them in the dark in respect of this decision.
