Khartoum , Oct 23 ( Kem)– Sudan (Central) Bank formally announced Monday issuance of new currency bills of the denominations 100 , 200 and 500 pounds but stopped short of saying when it will go on public.
The announcement was made by Central Bank Governor Mohamed Khair Al-Zobair in press statements yesterday while admitting the soaring inflation rates since April 2016 apart from instability of the pound’s exchange rates against foreign currencies.
He emphasized importance of realizing the five-year economic recovery program aimed at reducing inflation and stabilizing foreign exchange rates.
The official criticized violation by airline companies of local rules governing dealings in foreign currency by ordering Sudanese nationals residing abroad to pay for their air tickets in the US dollar.
Jurisdiction by the finance ministry over public money realizes ample resources, he said , underscoring the need for collaborative efforts by various state institutions in order to rationalize public expenditure.
The official vowed to resolve the problem of scarcity in cash and to manage export proceeds from foreign currencies in the emergency room of the Central Bank.
